Currently, gas prices have gone up high again. And it's not only because Russia is one of the largest oil exporters in the world, and recent events between Russia and Ukraine. But also the sudden increase in demand for gasoline, as workers are returning to the office.
As usual, people take to social media to complain about the rise in gas prices; and at the time of this post, the topic #GasPrices was trending in Twitter. While most of the memes are political, or contain some expletives, we found this one very funny:
And we were wondering why the Flinstones were trending; many have shared the following picture, as their alternative form of travel:
Although the Flintmobile would be a great option, what we do have widely available is public transit. Depending on where you live, you can have several different transit options.
For example, in the Washington DC area, there is a wide variety of public transit options. From bus to rail, carpool to carshares, and even bikes. Virtually every location in the DC area is accessible by any form of public transit, and if there isn't, Uber and Lyft are great options too.
At this time, public transit agencies are ramping up their schedules to offer more services; as when the pandemic ridership was low, forcing transit companies to reduce hours, or routes. This is an excellent time to save money, and ride public transit. Especially if your employer offers commuter benefits.
Regarding safety, this has been a top priority for public transport companies. They have scheduled increased cleaning and disinfection of their public transit vehicles. In addition to following the CDC guidelines in regard of face coverings to help prevent the spread.
Take the stress of high gas prices and sitting in traffic for hours and find the best public transit options near you. It will save you time, money and grief; and even add some leisure time to your commute with catching up on a book to read, or simply scroll on social media.
